Can I Change the Time Zone in MetaTrader?

Official IUX Help Centre guidance, arranged in a distraction-free reader while preserving the source article’s images and embedded videos.

Official source updated February 25, 2026

MetaTrader does not allow users to change the chart time zone directly.

MT4 and MT5 charts are based on the broker’s server time, not the trader’s local time. Because the server time is fixed by the broker, individual users cannot modify the time zone settings on their charts.

Why Doesn’t MetaTrader Allow Time Zone Changes?

MetaTrader uses a centralized server-time system to:

  • Ensure consistent price data across all users
  • Prevent discrepancies in candlestick formation
  • Maintain accuracy for indicators, Expert Advisors (EAs), and strategy testing

Allowing each user to change the time zone could cause inconsistencies in charts, signals, and automated trading results.

Adapt Your Strategy to the Broker’s Server Time

Instead of changing the time zone, traders should:

  • Identify the broker’s server time (e.g., GMT+2 / GMT+3)
  • Use server time as the reference for analysis and trade execution

This approach reduces confusion and keeps trading decisions consistent, aligning your strategy with server time. You can trade effectively without any issues.
